Sowie die manuellen Komponenten haben auch die nichtmanuellen Komponenten verneinender Gebärden eine feste Grundform. Die Grundform der nichtmanuellen Komponente Kopf besteht aus Kopfschütteln:
(a) Kopfschütteln – 00:12-00:14
Auch die Modifikation einer nichtmanuellen Komponente führt dazu, dass eine Verneinung verstärkt oder abgeschwächt wird. Der Oberkörper wird meist nach hinten, kann aber auch nach vorne geneigt werden. Das Schütteln des Kopfes erfolgt in der Position des Oberkörpers.
Die Art und Weise, die Dynamik des Kopfschüttelns kann je nach Differenzierung der Verneinung sehr unterschiedlich ausfallen (dezente, kräftige, kleine, grosse, einmalige, mehrmalige Bewegung etc.), wie folgende Beispiele zeigen:

Auch Mundbilder und Mundformen sind bei einer Verneinung zu beachten. Sie können ebenfalls modifiziert werden und geben damit über die Art der Verneinung Auskunft.
